Somali officials say an investigation is underway over the abduction of a German national working for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Mogadishu.
A spokesman for the Somali security ministry, Abdiaziz Hildhiban, said a number of suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnap.
“We’ve arrested a number of people we think were involved in the abduction. We are also conducting further investigations,” he said.
The abduction happened inside a Red Cross compound in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district, reports said.
It came a day after a World Health Organisation employee was killed in Mogadishu’s Bakara market.
Somalia is one of the world’s most dangerous places for humanitarian aid workers.
More than 60 aid workers were either killed or abducted in the last two years.
