Somalia has converted an army training camp in Mogadishu vacated by Emirati trainers to a barracks, the state-run news agency said.
The General Gordan military camp will now be home members of the Somali Daljir army brigade, Somali National News Agency reported.
Somali army chief Gently Abdullahi Anod visited the base on Saturday and promised support for the UAE-trained military unit.
Earlier this month, the United Arab Emirates ended a military training programme in Somalia and suspended the operations of a hospital it ran in Mogadishu which provided medical help to needy Somalis.
The move is seen as a response to Somali authorities’ seizure a few weeks ago of nearly 10 million US dollars on a UAE plane at the international airport in Mogadishu.
