Former US President George H.W. Bush has been admitted to a hospital intensive care unit in Houston, Texas, a day after a funeral was held for his wife, Barbara Bush.
Bush, who served as 41st President of the united States, was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital after contracting an infection that spread to his blood, family spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.
“He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant,” said McGrath.
Reports say the former president was in critical condition.
Bush revealed several years ago he suffers from a form of Parkinson’s disease, which has left him unable to walk.
His wife, Barbara Bush died last Tuesday. The couple had been married for 73 years.
He was president from 1989 to 1993 and his son, George W Bush, went on to serve in the same role.
