The US will send FBI experts to investigate Saturday’s bomb blast at a rally attended by Ethioian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa, a US official has said.
Two people were killed and over 150 others wounded in the attack at Meskel Square as the prime minister concluded his speech. Thousands of people attended the rally.
State-run TV EBC said 30 people, including police officers, have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the blast.
Abiy took office in April after his predecessor stepped down and after years of anti-government unrest.
The new premier announced plans to liberalise the economy and reconcile with neighbouring arch-enemy Eritrea. He also lifted the state of emergency and released scores of jailed dissidents.
