Car bomb hits Somalia’s capital after weeks of relative calm

A car explosion rocked a key street in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday (20 June), leaving two people injured.

The explosion took place along the city’s Mecca al-Mukaramah Road after a device attached to a private vehicle went off.

The wounded were rushed to medical facilities in Mogadishu for treatment.

The attack shattered a month-long period of relative stability in the Somali capital.

The explosion is the first to hit the city in nearly forty days, local media said.

Somali police have launched an investigation into the incident.
