Somalia’s al-Shabab group has stoned a woman to death in the southern town of Sablale for allegedly being married to 11 men at the same time.
Shukri Warsame was found guilty of marrying 11 times without divorcing previous husbands, an al-Shabab judge told a crowd who had gathered to witness the execution in the town.
Sablale residents said Shukri was buried deep-neck and stoned to death by a group of al-Shabab fighters.
An Al-Shabab court in southern Somalia region of Lower Shabelle said it found the woman guilty of committing the crime and assembled a large crowd to witness the execution.
The al-Qaeda-linked group executes dozens of people each year and most of the victims are accused of espionage, rape and theft. Victims do not get legal representation.
The group, fighting to overthrow an internationally-backed but weak government in Mogadishu, runs its own court system as part of its effort to impose Islamic law.
