Four Somali soldiers were killed when Al-Shabab fighters stormed a military base in Puntland, a semi-autonomous regional administration in northeastern Somalia.
Reports say scores of heavily-armed Al-Shabab fighters carried out the raid on the base near the Galgala Mountains and burned down military vehicles.
Puntland has accused Somaliland, the breakaway republic, of being involved in the attack on its military base. Puntland and Somaliland are engaged in military confrontations in a disputed region of Sool. Somaliland denied the accusation.
Puntland has been relatively calm compared to south-central Somalia, but there has been an increase of violance recently.
